Martial Arts And Eastern Medicine

The mainstreams of these two professions are tied together by an energy force called Ki. Ki is also known as the Chinese character "chi." Ki, our vital energy or life force, regulates the human condition and our health. If a person has good Ki, then it is equivalent to having a good immune system in Eastern medical theory. This good Ki may also be translated as energy in terms of stamina, nutrition, and so on. In order to maintain a good healthy condition, one must have a good balance between nutrition, exercise, and health maintenance with proper medical treatment as necessary. That is why martial arts and Eastern medicine spring from this mainstream of Ki energy. Historically, a good doctor in ancient times was also a martial arts expert, and vice versa. In Eastern medicine, no movement means no life. For a good quality life, we require several things. These include nutrition, exercise (movement), a positive and stress free mind, and a good living environment.

We would like to motivate all professionals to study the traditional combination of Eastern medicine and the martial arts to better share the benefits of traditional martial arts with the public.  Traditional Martial Arts Classifications.  Traditional martial arts developed from a family oriented system. Martial art masters originally taught only family members. They later "adopted" members into their family.  Cousins, nephews, and the marriage related in-laws fit into this second category. As time passed, others asked to be taught by the masters. However, only after years of servitude to show their respect, might these people be taken on as students. Martial arts education has several different teaching aspects. Under some "styles" the master is regarded as a father figure. In other "styles" the master is revered, almost from a religious standpoint or treated as an instructor and counselor.
